Rolling thunder, heavy rain and lightning, August 21, 2012 / Unwetter am 20. und 21. August 2012

August 20 and 21 were pretty hot days in Berlin. On August 20 a severe storm hit the north of Berlin in the afternoon. On August 21 another big storm produced sheet lightning in the south and heavy rainfall again in the north of Berlin. A little river in the North – the Panke – swept over and railway tracks were blocked.

The dark clouds could be seen from famous Potsdamer Platz looking into the direction of the Brandenburger Tor

Potsdam, August 2, 2012: Thunderstorm

Commuters from Berlin were surprised by a dark wall coming from the south-west straight towards the famous Glieniker Brücke around 7pm on Thursday, August 2.

Heavy rain was coming closer.

Things begun to look serious…

This storm meant business and ended the photographer running back to the car. There was also little hail involved but the show didn’t last very long. The main core of the storm used the typical path west of the river havel then.  In the evening it was dry again.
